Rushdie, (Ahmed) Salman
(19 jun. 1947, Bombay, India).

Novelista indo-británico. Educado en la Universidad de Cambridge, trabajó como redactor de textos publicitarios en Londres en la década de 1970 antes de alcanzar un éxito inesperado con su novela Los hijos de la medianoche (1981, Premio Booker), una alegoría de India moderna. Su segunda novela, Vergüenza (1983), es un acerbo retrato de la política y la moral sexual en Pakistán. A raíz de la publicación de su novela Los versos satánicos (1988), que incluye entre los extraños acontecimientos que relata algunos episodios basados en la vida de Mahoma, fue acusado de blasfemia por algunos líderes musulmanes, y en 1989 fue condenado a muerte por Ruholá Jomeini de Irán. Se vio obligado a permanecer escondido durante años, al paso que por esta misma razón fue cobrando renombre internacional cada vez mayor. Entre sus novelas posteriores se destacan El último suspiro del moro (1995) y Furia (2001).
